One former Florida State Seminole had some interesting comments about the Georgia Bulldogs and the outcome of the pair's matchup in the Orange Bowl. After hearing what the young man had to say, The Steakhouse had some thoughts and reminders that they wanted to share.
The Georgia Bulldogs met up with the Florida State Seminoles in a matchup between two teams that felt they deserved a shot at the College Football Playoff. The 'Noles, an undefeated conference champion, and the 'Dawgs, the two-time defending champions, each had their argument for why they should have been included in the four-team field.
Regardless, both were omitted and were sent to Miami to play in the Orange Bowl as a not-so-desired consolation prize. The result was something made of nightmares for the Seminoles -- an unholy 63-3 beatdown that will reverberate through the annals of college football history.
The Seminoles, to their credit, were absent several players who chose not to play in the New Year's Six matchup, but the results speak for themselves.
Despite that fact, Keon Coleman, one of those players who chose not to play, made it known that he feels like the contest would've gone the other way had they played in a game that he felt mattered.
"If you would have won [against Alabama in the SEC Championship Game], you would have found out who was better between Florida State and Georgia," he told RGIII earlier this week on his podcast. "You would have played us in the ‘matter bowl,' in a bowl that mattered. We’re not going to play y’all in a bowl that don’t matter. That’s a waste of time."
Coleman continued, "If y’all would have won [against Alabama] and did what y’all were supposed to do, y’all would have would have had to see us. We would have been doing that [chop] the whole time. All of that barking, we would have put a spear straight through you. Ain’t no barking, that’s dead. You would have found out, but the world may never know because Georgia decided to lose [to Alabama]."
"You didn't play, and I know it was a bad situation," Rusty Mansell said about the comments during Wednesday's edition of The Steakhouse. "But you don't come out and say what we would've done to you. You just say we would've liked to have the opportunity, because when you get beat by nine touchdowns you don't really comment on that team."
Coleman did have a point that the Seminoles may have been excluded because of the Georgia loss in the SEC Championship. Georgia, Michigan, and Washington would've been in, while the Seminoles would've had a better argument, one-to-one, against Texas.
That fact doesn't make the beatdown they received in the Orange Bowl any less significant, or any less likely that it would've happened no matter who was playing for the Seminoles.
"If they had all played, but their quarterback [Jordan Travis] was still injured, they would be a double-digit underdog," Steak said. "If their quarterback [Travis] was able to play, they would've been a seven-point underdog. So stop talking about what Florida State would ever do to Georgia."
