Georgia wants the 'big money dudes' too
Earlier this week, it was reported the Georgia Bulldogs are just outside the top tier of most expensive college football rosters, spending just under $40M. “Where are they spending this money,” 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes, asked as he and cohost, Mike Bell, were joined by Mike Griffith of Dawg Nation and the AJC.com.
“Where are they spending it because everybody thinks that Georgia’s not spending on par with some of these other schools,” Dukes continued as he asked Griffith to share his thoughts on Georgia’s roster building and if Kirby Smart is being “cautious” in regards to how much he is willing to pay a quarterback.
“Well, they’ve gotten outbid for Caleb Williams and Fernando Mendoza and Jared Curtis,” Griffith responded as he explained that while the Bulldogs have not been able to land some of the top college transfer and high school recruits, they have shown willingness to pursue them.
“There was some money on the table for those guys, but USC, Vanderbilt and apparently Indiana were willing to spend more,” Griffith responded, noting several defensive players the Bulldogs have added over the years including KJ Bolden, Elijah Griffin and Juan Gaston. “These are some big money dudes that you paid to retain that would have potentially gone elsewhere,” Griffith explained.Georgia willing to compete with high spending programs for top recruits
