When Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck went down in the SEC Championship, a lot of fans thought that all hope was lost. Enter backup Gunnar Stockton. Stockton, the heir apparent to Beck should Beck had left UGA for the NFL Draft, came in and led Georgia on a touchdown drive, and would go on to win the game. Now, a couple of short weeks later, Stockton is getting ready to make his first career start in round two of the first 12-team playoff against Notre Dame in the 2024 Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Being led by Head Coach Kirby Smart, most of UGA faithful and the team itself are rallying behind Stockton, and a lot are thinking that the team will not miss a beat. What is curious though, is that there is a faction of Georgia fans that have completely turned their back on Carson Beck. While the 2024 season for Georgia was tumultuous at times, Carson Beck led this team to an 11-2 record, SEC Championship, and a first round bye in the College Football Playoff. It is crazy how fickle that sports fans can be sometimes, and we can all live in a world where both Carson Beck AND Gunnar Stockton can be celebrated for the results of the 2024 season.
