At the start of the 2021 season, many national and local sports media had Georgia Bulldogs quarterback J.T. Daniels as a Heisman Trophy candidate. But it seems the Heisman race seems to be going in a different direction--at least when it comes to which player could emerge to represent the Dawgs in New York.

Injuries have plagued Daniels' season, keeping him out of the last three match-ups for Georgia. Stetson Bennett has stepped in to lead the offense and improving every week.

However, the offense hasn't been the biggest story for the Bulldogs this season; it's the defense.

Brandon Adams of Dawg Nation, who joins the Midday Show every Tuesday at 1:20, has a different name in mind when it comes to the Heisman race: defensive tackle Jordan Davis. Per Adams:

"Do I really think that Jordan Davis is going to win the Heisman trophy? No, admittedly, even in a weird year like this. That may still be a step too weird. But I've been thinking about this a lot the last couple days, coming off the game against Auburn. Could you get him to New York City as a Heisman finalist, and would that be like the coolest thing I've seen in my entire life?"

Can you give it to just one player from Georgia's defense with how dominant they've been as a whole this season?

"Clearly Georgia's defense is getting a ton of credit nationally, rightfully so for what they're doing," Andy Bunker added.

"I guess if you're going to give an individual--like the face of that defense--it's either Jordan Davis or Nakobe Dean. Maybe it's not crazy. I mean, (Davis) is not going to win the Heisman unless, if you're a defensive lineman, you're going to have like 30 sacks of something like that...So he's not going to have the eye-popping numbers, but maybe he could go to New York City."
