It's not a secret what the biggest difference is over the past few years between Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and UGA, and that's the quarterback position.
Since Kirby Smart took over at UGA, he has yet to find the QB to transform the offense from good to great. He hasn't even had a Heisman finalist yet.
Of course there was a chance, but Smart never really let Justin Fields see any meaningful snaps at QB and then watched him transfer to Ohio State and become one of the most dynamic players in the country.
Smart's reliance on comfort and his loyalty to whichever guy has the job has held back UGA in the past and it's threatening to hold back UGA now.
Smart reaffirmed Stetson Bennett as UGA's starter at they face Kentucky on Saturday. But a few wonder when, and if, J.T. Daniels, the high-profile transfer from Southern Cal, will get a shot at all to improve the UGA offense.
John and Hugh take a look at Kirby Smart's use of his QB room and why his reluctance to give other guys chances is going to cost the program.
"He doesn't even want to give J.T. Daniels a chance to play right now because he's afraid of a QB controversy," complains John Fricke. "He's so cautious at that position that he's afraid to take a chance."
"If he had played Justin Fields," continues Fricke, "it would have been evident that Fields was the better player."
"I don't know what the reps count is, but he's (Daniels) is taking reps," says Hugh Douglas. "This weekend is going to tell you everything you need to know about the direction Georgia is going to go in."
