The Georgia Bulldogs closed out their second straight undefeated regular season Saturday in Athens by beating in-state rival Georgia Tech. After the game Head Coach Kirby Smart found a unique way to honor late UGA coach Vince Dooley, Dukes & Bell talked about Smart’s tribute.
Dukes talked about the tribute.
“I wanna tell you the coolest thing I saw all weekend, the Dawgs are in the championship game for fifth time in six years, this program is as real as it gets, it’s as good as any program you’ve seen over the last decade. I’m not going to say it’s the new-new but Georgia isn’t going anywhere,” Dukes said. “I thought seeing Kirby Smart after this game put on the legendary Vince Dooley’s tie in the postgame was one of the coolest things I saw and the reason is because Coach Dooley came on our show, we spent a lot of time with Coach over the years, he passed away October 28th at 90 years old. They had the celebration of life on Friday at Stegeman Coliseum but this was presented to Kirby by the family.”
Carl explained why Smart waited until after the game.
“I thought that Kirby did this the right way, he could have worn this during the game but he said ‘I would have taken away from my seniors, I didn’t wanna do that.’ And so he did this after the game, he actually changed clothes and I just thought that’s the way you do it honoring a guy that won six SEC titles and a national championship in Coach Dooley. So Kirby, very cool, very smart and I think that’s one of the coolest thing’s I’ve seen.”
