When Georgia fired Tom Crean hopes were high about who they could pull in as the next head coach, but when they announced it would be Florida's Mike White taking over the job, many expressed disappointment in the hire, but not DawgNation's Mike Griffith.
"He's the most qualified guy Georgia could get that hasn't had NCAA or FBI issues," says Griffith.
A day after LSU's Will Wade was fired and the program is headed towards possible penalties for the program, Georgia made it clear that they wanted their program run a certain way and Mike White fit that category with moderate success to boot.
"Georgia wanted to get an above-board guy and this is a guy that's been to 4 NCAA Tournaments, an Elite 8, SEC coach of the year, he knows the landscape," says Mike Griffith. "This isn't exactly the Duke or North Carolina job."
Georgia's basketball program is considered to be one of the larger underachievers in the country, surrounded by a talent-rich Atlanta recruiting base, the school hasn't been ranked since the 2011 season and hasn't qualified for the NCAA Tournament since 2015.
