One of the biggest story-lines for Week 1 in College Football is former Georgia Defensive Coordinator Dan Lanning, now the head coach at Oregon, returning to face his old program. Throw in Oregon starting QB Bo Nix and his three seasons at Auburn, there are a lot of factors of familiarity that Oregon enters this game with while UGA is dealing with quite a few unknowns about the Ducks program.
John and Hugh chat about Lanning and Nix's understanding and experience with UGA program and why they don't feel it will make one bit of difference.
"There are some that put a lot of stock in to that, you still have to go out and play. You might have the knowledge of the abilities of the guys you see, but you don't have the personnel to stop them," says Hugh Douglas speaking about Oregon's head coach and QB having experience with the Georgia Football team. "How many times did Bo Nix beat Georgia when he was at Auburn? You're familiar with the attack, but you don't know how to stop it."
Bo Nix has faced Georgia three times in his career while he was the starting QB for Auburn, but the results have not been positive for new Oregon QB.
Nix is 0-3 against Georgia and hasn't thrown or rushed for a TD against the Dawgs since the 21-14 loss in 2019. In that time, Nix has thrown an interception in each of the last two games against Georgia.
Oregon Head Coach Dan Lanning had been a member of Kirby Smart's staff since 2018 and was elevated to Defensive Coordinator for the last three seasons before bolting for Euguene and the Ducks head coaching job.
