The Georgia Bulldogs’ offense turned into more of a passing attack with Carson Beck at quarterback. Last season Beck averaged 34.4 passing attempts per game, and passing the ball that many times a game is not usually the identity of Head Coach Kirby Smart and the Dawgs’ offense, but now with redshirt sophomore quarterback Gunner Stockton poised to be Georgia’s QB1 this season it seems like the Dawgs will be going back to more of an offensive style that features a heavy dose of the run game.
Earlier today on The Morning Shift longtime college football writer and senior writer for Sports Illustrated Pat Forde joined the show, and explained why he thinks this year’s Georgia team will have a “classic Kirby identity”.
“Last year Georgia was such an anomaly where they couldn’t run the ball, and so you’ve got Carson Beck throwing it 45 times and it just was not the way Kirby Smart wants to play. It’s not the way I don’t think Mike Bobo wants to call games. I think you get back probably more to a classic Kirby identity with this team where you want to be able to to be a little more dominant in the trenches, run the ball, your defense should be very very good again, and you’re throwing it 25 times and maybe you’re winning 28 to14 instead of trying to outscore people so, I would anticipate them looking at Gunner Stockton saying hey just don’t lose us games, you know keep us in games, and everything else will take care of itself.” Forde said
It seems like Kirby Smart has this 2025 Georgia team built just about how he wants it, and if that’s the case there the Dawgs’ offense will in fact be running the ball a lot more than they did last year.
