DawgNation’s Connor Riley joined Dukes & Bell for his weekly appearance and talked about the Jalen Carter news and how much heat Kirby Smart should take for the recent legal issues players have had.

Riley talked about why Kirby should take heat for recent issues.

“I’ll point out with Jalen Carter, he declared for the draft not even before the sun had come up the next morning after the national championship game. Nolan Smith stayed out in California to train right after the national championship game, to start getting himself ready for the NFL combine,” Riley said. “Stetson Bennett who is no longer a part of the program is 25 years old and was arrested in Dallas after a night out partying. Kirby Smart doesn’t have to be their babysitter in that circumstance.”

Connor talked about why Kirby should speak publicly on recent events.

“Kirby Smart does not run a very transparent program, he’s not judged on the transparency of his program he’s judged on winning and losing, the development of young men and results," Riley said. "In a situation where you’re not transparent and very selectively try to control the message that comes out. In situations like this it comes to backfire against you, you have a lot of people asking a lot questions about Jalen Carter because we don’t hear from and we don’t know a whole lot about him as a person.

You have questions again about what did Kirby know, what did the AD know and they’re gonna obviously let the investigation finish before commenting and making anything substantial on that as well. But at a certain point you have to I do think to the public show, hey we’re taking it seriously and putting a face to that I think says a lot more than putting out these statements that comes in an email and goes to reporters.”
