The Georgia Bulldogs title defense got off to a strong start with a 49-3 victory over Oregon and among the highlights was the performance of QB Stetson Bennett.
Stetson Bennett went 25 for 31 with 368 yards, 2 passing TD's, and a rushing TD and it had John and Hugh asking DawgNation's Mike Griffith if we should treat Stetson as a Heisman candidate.
"After Week 1 there's thirty or forty guys in the Heisman talk, but yeah, in terms of did he change some peoples minds about him, that was an eye opening performance," says Mike Griffith. "As efficient as he looked, not just throwing the ball, and he had one of those Heisman-friendly highlights."
Part of the discussion surrounding Stetson's rise to Heisman hopeful is the lack of big numbers put up by the top candidates not named Bryce Young.
Those who had some lackluster Week 1 performances include Ohio St. QB C.J. Stroud, USC QB Caleb Williams, Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel, and South Carolina QB Spencer Rattler.
