Was the media too soft on Kirby Smart at SEC Media Days?

Kirby Smart took to the podium on Tuesday at SEC Media Days and appeared confident and in control of the best program in college football. After a ten-minute opening statement, Smart turned to the media for questions, but some of those questions failed to hit the mark after an offseason full of tragedy and off-filed incidents.

During the open portion of the conference, only a couple of questions were directed at either the fatal crash or rampant speeding issues going on for current and former Dawgs. Dukes & Bell say the media should have pressed Smart more on those issues.

“There’s two ways to think about this. One is they (media) don’t care. Because you need to go in there thinking there’s a line of questioning you need to have answered. Or two is that Kirby is getting a respect now with back-to-back Nattys that he didn’t have in 2015 or 2016 with the University of Georgia,” Carl Dukes explained.

To his credit, he did answer the questions that were asked and did not dismiss any reporter who chose to go down that road. But the lack and line of questions seemed to leave Dukes & Bell wanting to hear more about these significant issues.
