While the college football season does not officially come to an end until Monday night at the completion of the national championship game, the Georgia Bulldogs are already in the midst of dealing with the turnover of their roster. While several Georgia players have announced plans to enter either the NFL Draft or the transfer portal, none have garnered controversial attention nationally until Carson Beck withdrew his name from the draft and later committed to Miami.

On Wednesday, USA Today writer, Matt Hayes, wrote an article in which he addressed Beck’s departure from Georgia and reports the quarterback was seemingly already detached from the program following his injury in the SEC Championship game, which reportedly caused Beck to fall out of favor with Georgia fans. However, according to Hayes’ article, once the signal caller announced he would instead enter the portal, Georgia was the first team calling with Alabama next in line.

“Let’s be very crystal clear on one thing. As soon as Carson Beck declared for the NFL Draft, Georgia moved on,” former Georgia and NFL punter, Drew Butler, said on Wednesday when he joined Steak Shapiro and Sandra Golden on The Steakhouse, to share his thoughts on the Hayes article. As he continued, Butler noted he believed conversations between Georgia and Beck were more than likely had in regards to his future, however once he declared for the draft, Kirby Smart and company, no longer had “time” to pursue Beck.

“They simply do not have time to sit there and try to negotiate a reported four-million-dollar deal that this kid is supposedly getting from Miami so as soon as he declared for the draft, Georgia was done,” Butler said.
