While the Georgia Bulldogs are in the midst of spring football and early preparations for the 2025 season, Kirby Smart still finds himself addressing criticism of his coaching staff and their role in what some believe was a down year in 2024. In a sit-down with Josh Pate of CBS Sports, Smart explained why he believes the Bulldogs coaching staff did their best job “easily” despite several bumps in the road as well as a “gauntlet” schedule and injuries.

On Monday, Steak Shapiro and Drew Butler shared their thoughts on Smart’s comments, each agreeing while Bulldogs’ fans may have deemed the 2024 season as one in which they did not “reach the standards that you want to reach,” Smart and his staff should without a doubt be praised for the various accomplishments they were able to lead Georgia to.

“Mike Bobo had so much to deal with,” Shapiro said as he explained why the lack of production in Georgia’s running game and an offensive line “nowhere near what they anticipated,” coupled with various injuries throughout the season, however significant wins, including two over Texas, and claiming the SEC title, was beyond a note worthy effort and season for the Bulldogs.

“To have the level of wins that you had, some of those quality wins, spectacular coaching job,” Shapiro added noting he believes it was evident the Bulldogs would eventually “run out of gas” having leaped the various hurdles of the season, yet giving valiant efforts along the way which included an eight-overtime win over Georgia Tech just ahead of the SEC championship game.
