After a seven win season that included two wins over top ten teams, and a thrilling eight overtime loss against Georgia last season there’s a lot of hype around Georgia Tech this year, and for good reason. Haynes King is returning as the team’s QB1, and Head Coach Brent Key has pulled in some five star high profile recruits.
Earlier today former Clemson football Captain and now college football analyst for the ACC Network and ESPN Eric Mac Lain joined The Morning Shift and explained why he thinks Georgia Tech will "dominate" Colorado in their season opener tonight and why he believes the Yellow Jackets are a "sleeper" team to contend for the ACC title this season.
“I’m a big Jackets fan this year man and have been just the way that Coach Key has built this program. He does it from the inside out, he got those lines of scrimmage right, there is a pipeline there, you’ve got five star players committing on the offensive line to come and play for him…” Mac Lain said.
Eric also said Haynes King’s “grit” and “leadership” are also reasons he likes Georgia Tech this year as well. Mac Lain also told The Morning Shift that he isn’t the only guy in the national media space that thinks highly of the Yellow Jackets this season.
“Georgia Tech is a very popular sleeper pick just country wide not just in the ACC. Kirk Herbstreit just did his Herbie awards the other day and Georgia Tech was that team for him amongst a lot of others, so I think the way the schedule shakes out obviously you have Clemson and Georgia on there and you always will, but they gotta chance man, and I think they open up tonight with a statement. I think they dominate Colorado and it starts in the trenches.” Eric said
If Georgia Tech can stay healthy they have the coach, quarterback, and player experience to have a legit shot to make some noise in the ACC this season, and if they “dominate” Colorado tonight like Eric predicts they’ll send quite the message to the rest of the ACC conference and college football.
