While the Braves’ season has been filled with its fair share of ups and downs from injuries to lack of offensive production, one consistent has been their starting pitching and how well they have performed throughout the season with Wednesday’s win being the their 23rd consecutive win in which the starting pitching has allowed three or less runs.

“That’s how good their starting pitching has been,” Beau Morgan of The Morning Shift said as he and co-host, Tiffany Blackmon and Mike Johnson shared their thoughts on the Braves’ starters and bullpen. As the conversation continued, they all weighed in on whether or not Charlie Morton, would remain in the starting rotation if Atlanta advances to the playoffs this season.

“He has grinded his way through the season,” Morgan continued as he shared his thoughts on Morton, who sits at 8-7 on the season with a 4.84 ERA and 148 strikeouts, and why he believes the 40-year old right hand pitcher may not be making the rotation. “If this team makes the post season, Charlie Morton can play a pivotal role on this pitching staff, but I don’t think it’s as a starter,” Morgan told his co-host.

In agreeance with Morgan, Johnson notes that he believes the emergence of right hand pitcher, Reynaldo Lopez and Spence Schwellenbach, also may play a role on how the Braves decide to utilize Morton in the playoffs if the Braves reach them. “It gives you a lot of flexibility in a possibly postseason series,” Johnson added.
