Will they or will they not? That has been a burning question for 92-9 The Game’s Jon Chuckery in regards to whether or not the Atlanta Falcons will be willing to go into the luxury tax to improve their roster and become a true title contending team. Recalling when Hawks’ owner, Tony Ressler stated that the team would go into the luxury tax when it makes sense and while the host says he does understand Ressler’s statement, he also believes that the Hawks have to be willing to go into the luxury tax in order to improve the roster.
“You can’t say guys for big money contracts of your own players and then avoid the luxury tax unless you’re going to do the Kevin Huerter deal. I don’t even know how it’s possible that we can get better and still continue to avoid the luxury tax coming up this season,” Chuckery said in his conversation with Ben Ladner of Fansided. Ladner seemingly echoes Chuckery’s comments in regards to Atlanta needing to enter the luxury tax to create a better lineup, however tells the evening host that the Hawks are in a challenging situations.
“They’re a good team, they’re decent. They played really well against the Heat, they showed some signs against Boston even in defeat. You can see how this can be a really high level offensive team, especially in the regular season,” Ladner responds to Chuckery’s comments. And while Ladner believes the Hawks are a good enough team to compete with some of the elite teams of the NBA, he also tells Chuckery that their mediocracy play could cause hesitancy in regards to how much money they would be willing to spend.
“On the other hand, you look at the Hawks statistical profile from last year and also some of the struggles they had during the post season and you could just as easily make the argument that this is kind of an average team. And is an average team worth going deep into the luxury tax for,” Ladner continued.
