Who doesn’t love a warm, juicy steak? They’re delicious, a great source of protein and pair well with a bottle of red, provided your slab is cooked to the right specifications. Apparently Twins outfielder Byron Buxton likes his steak EXTREMELY well done.
I’ve labored through a few tough steaks in my day, but I can’t say I’ve ever broken a tooth on one. They must not have a Morton’s in Fort Myers, because the former Gold Glover can certainly afford a good steak ($5.125 million base salary this season). Luckily Buxton’s dental emergency (I wonder if he and Aaron Judge share a dentist) won’t cost him much time as the Twins expect the 27-year-old back in camp “shortly.” For Buxton, this week’s steak-induced setback was par for the course. It’s been one tough-luck injury after another for Buxton, who has only cracked the century mark in games played once since debuting in 2015.
Buxton is hoping to build off last year’s success after setting career marks in both slugging percentage (.577) and OPS (.844) in 2020. So are the Twins, who are coming off a second straight division title. Buxton likely won’t be biting into a porterhouse any time soon, but the next time he does, I’d recommend ordering on the rarer side.
