Regardless of whether the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl LV, a former LSU Tigers running back is guaranteed to walk away with a championship ring on Feb. 7.
As Shea Dixon of 24/7 Sports noted, every rushing touchdown in Sunday's NFC and AFC Championship Games was scored by a former LSU running back.
Leonard Fournette, who still wears his LSU shoulder pads, ran for a 20-yard touchdown early in the second quarter of Sunday afternoon's NFC Championship Game. The Buccaneers didn't ask Fournette to carry a ton of the load, but he did rush for 65 yards on 12 carries Sunday, helping Tom Brady to reach his 10th career Super Bowl.
Fournette, of course, rushed for 3,830 yards in three seasons at LSU between 2014 and 2016. The former No. 4 overall pick was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars just prior to the season, but the 26-year-old has become a crucial weapon in the Buccaneers postseason run.
Meanwhile, Clyde Edwards-Helaire had just seven rushing yards on six carries in the AFC Championship Game, but did score a touchdown after missing the team's AFC Divisional Round victory over the Cleveland Browns with multiple lower body injuries. The Chiefs overcame an early 9-0 deficit to defeat the Buffalo Bills 38-24, advancing to their second consecutive Super Bowl.
Edwards-Helaire, the No. 32 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, will attempt to win a Super Bowl the year after helping LSU to capture a National Championship. Edwards-Helaire ran for 110 yards and added five catches for 54 yards in LSU's 42-25 victory over Clemson in the National Title Game last year.
