Could Stanford's Davis Mills be Matt Ryan's backup?

The Atlanta Falcons hold the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft on Thursday. What the Falcons will do with that pick -- draft a quarterback, trade back, take Kyle Pitts -- has been one of the bigger mysteries.

The Falcons currently have one quarterback on their roster, Matt Ryan, so it makes sense that they'll target a backup at some point in the draft. Whether that will be in the first round is the other question.

Let's say the Falcons don't draft a quarterback at No. 4, with the likes of Justin Fields, Trey Lance and Mac Jones all being potential options. Who is that second tier quarterback they should be eyeing in the later rounds?

NFL Draft analyst for The Athletic, Dane Bruglar, joined Andy and Randy on Tuesday with one specific name in mind if the Falcons were to look in the later rounds for a quarterback.

"If I was going to bet on any of these quarterbacks outside the first five guys, it'd be Davis Mills out of Stanford," Bruglar said. "(He's) a former five star recruit, 6'4, 220 pounds; a really loose athlete. I think he's the best 'middle-of-the-field' thrower in this draft."

However, Bruglar said there are a couple of concerns when it comes to Mills.

"The left knee--you have to make sure, medically, everything's okay--and then only 11 starts on his college resume. And that's obviously a red flag, not what you want. It's going to take some time for him, but you talk about a situation from the go-to in Atlanta where Matt Ryan's entrenched as the starter this year and likely next year, that might be a good fit."

"It's just where do you have to go to get Davis Mills. There's a good chance he's off the board mid-second round so Atlanta might have to do some moving around in the draft to get him."
