Mac Jones stole Tom Brady’s dad bod.
Does that mean he’ll become the greatest of all-time?
The Patriots selecting Jones with the No. 15 overall pick was too perfect. After weeks of fervent speculation about whether Bill Belichick would trade up, he hung at his spot, and got his quarterback anyway. Immediately, Mel Kiper compared the situation to what happened 21 years ago, when Brady fell to the Patriots at No. 199.
Of course, there’s a big difference between No. 15 and No. 199, but why let details get in the way of a good narrative? Besides, Jones is a physical carbon copy of what Brady looked like at 22 years old.
That’s not exactly a compliment.
The saga of Sad Mac Jones was one of the more enjoyable subplots of the NFL Draft Thursday. He was widely expected to be taken within the top five, and attended the draft in-person. But then the 49ers selected Trey Lance at No. 3 overall. And Jones’ waiting game began.
He stared into space, checked his phones, and slouched in his chair.

Then when the Jets were on the clock, his phone rang. He proceeded to strut to the stage like a lunch monitor en route to break up a food fight.
Obviously, Jones arrives to Foxboro with much more fanfare than Brady 21 years ago. This is the first time Bill Belichick has ever selected a quarterback before No. 62.
He says he’s ready for the challenge. "This is what I wanted all along,” he said on NFL Network. “I can't wait to play for the greatest franchise in NFL history.”
