Two unleashed dogs attacked two of New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson’s dogs last month.

According to The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate, one of Benson’s Yorkies, Miss Lucy, was killed in the vicious attack. Her other Yorkie, Master Petey, was injured in the mauling and had to get stitches.

“It is with great sadness to inform you all that on Saturday the 10th of April, 2021 at approximately 3:21 pm Miss Lucy was brutally attacked by 2 vicious dogs in her neighborhood protecting her brother Petey and Mother,” an obituary for Benson’s dog said in a social media post.

The paper says the New Orleans Police Department released no details about the attacking dogs’ breed or size.

The owners of the dogs agreed to have them euthanized in order to avoid municipal charges for improper handling of a dangerous dog according to the paper. However, the owners could still face leash law violations and Ms. Benson could file a civil lawsuit against the dogs’ owners.
