Dak Prescott is chalking up his trash talk with Trevon Diggs as good fun and a way to make each other better.
Things got heated between Prescott and the Cowboys defense, Diggs specifically, during Tuesday’s practice. While working in the red zone, the defense was more than happy to give it to Prescott whenever they got a stop.
Because it’s training camp, there were plenty of videos showing the exchanges, including one that captured Diggs telling Prescott to “Shut your b—h ass up,”
Prescott, by his own admission, loves trash talking, so he was hardly taking offense Thursday in an appearance on The GBag Nation.
“I think it’s fun. Always kind of have,” Prescott said. “These guys are always trying to get interceptions and make big plays, so I’m definitely there encouraging it.
“It never really has (gotten too heated), not with me anyways. I think that’s part of it. That part goes into the trust, goes into what you build with your teammates and understanding who they are. You’re not necessarily talking trash to somebody that doesn’t talk trash. That’s wrong, that’s a way to start something, that’s a way to cut deep – and that person might not know how to react.
“But a guy that naturally runs his mouth, a guy that naturally encourages that, there are no laws or rules to it at this point. It’s hey, you encourage this, I do it too, so let’s go. At the end of the day, words are words. So we’ve got to understand that and really believe that, so it’s going to make us better.
“As I said, a lot of times I know it’s just encouraging these guys to play their best and be accountable and really get the best out of them.”
That echoes sentiments Diggs made, saying he too thinks it makes practice fun and that he loves “Dak to death.”
After the video started circulating, former NFL running-back-turned-talking-head LeSean McCoy said that Diggs trash talking Prescott is a sign they don’t respect him.
Prescott decided against giving a full-fledged rebuttal.
“Honestly, I couldn’t tell you what he’s saying," Prescott responded. "I think he’s probably just getting paid well and likes his money.”
