While some teams throughout Georgia have yet to play their first region opponent, the Stockbridge Tigers had already faced three region foes heading into Friday night's matchup with the McDonough Warhawks.
With a 2-1 region record and a 3-1 overall record, the Tigers looked to win their third consecutive game and wasted no time getting their offense off and running needing just two plays on the opening drive of the game to find the end zone as junior quarterback, Joshua Scott would connect with Gavin Kitchen for a 55-yard touchdown pass as the Stockbridge would take an early 7-0 lead.
On the ensuing McDonough possession, the Tigers' defense would get into the action forcing a fumble and Stockbridge linebacker CJ Harris coming up with the ball and returning it to the Warhawks' eight yard line, setting up a Edward Minor rushing touchdown, helping the Tigers take a 14-0 lead.
"They did a good job," Stockbridge head coach, Kendrick Callier said following Friday's win as he praised the Tigers' defense for self correcting early on in the game. "We kind of missed some tackles early, they made some adjustments and just played ball in that second quarter and on. They did a great job," Callier said.
Following a safety by the Warhawks which extended Stockbridge's lead to 16-0, the Tigers' defense would force another turnover after Zyaire Patrick would intercept a Drayden Gibbs pass setting up the ensuing Tigers' possession which resulted in the second touchdown pass by Scott, who finished with five passing touchdowns, with Kruz Marion on the receiving end and Stockbridge taking a 23-0 lead.
With the second quarter winding down, Scott and Kitchen would hook up for a second time as Stockbridge increased their lead to 30-0 and with Scott's fourth and fifth touchdowns coming in the third quarter, the Tigers would go on to pick up the 47-7 win.
"We were executing all of our plays, our receivers were making sure they were running their routes right, they were catching the ball well, o-line blocking well, we were just working together good as an offense in whole," Scott said of the Tigers' offense.
