The Atlanta Falcons will wrap up their preseason tonight when they host the Pittsburg Steelers, who head coach, Mike Tomlin, said would be playing their starters. However, for the home team, fans in attendance will more than likely only see players hoping to make the Atlanta 53-man roster in action at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. And for most of the week, one of the ongoing debates has been whether or not the Falcons starters should take the field at all tonight, in particularly, quarterback Desmond Ridder.
While talking with ESPN/Atlanta Falcons reporter, Michael Rothstein, Mike Bell of 92-9 The Game’s Dukes and Bell Show, expressed that he believs Ridder’s performance against the Bengals last week was a progression from the way the second year quarterback started training camp. “I thought the ball was coming out so much quicker and decision making was happening faster than it did at the beginning of camp,” Bell said.
While overall Rothstein stated that he was in agreeance with the afternoon host, he noted that there were a few times during that Bengals display in which Ridder may have shown that he still needs to work on a few things. However, Rothstein wanted to reiterate that ultimately, there is still a level of uncertainty of Ridder’s potential and that “anyone that tells you they know what Desmond Ridder’s going to be this year, is lying to you because we don’t know. No one can truly know until we actually see it in a game….that matters,” Rothstein added.
