Wesleyan relies on 'disciple' to keep win streak going
As the regular season winds down for the Wesleyan Wolves boys lacrosse team, they continue to keep momentum behind them as they picked up their seventh consecutive win on Friday after defeating the Centennial Knights 16-4 in a non-region matchup, which also took place on the Wolves "Senior Night".
"I think for us, it's just staying disciplined is the biggest thing," Wesleyan senior and Saint Joseph's University commit, said following Friday's victory, crediting his teammates for their commitment to the necessary work ethic to help the Wolves with their success.
"I think last year we fell short and this year, for the seniors, we want to have it. This is the one we want," Jones said of the Wolves' pursuit to win another Georgia High School Association state championship which they were able to do during the 2023-2024 campaign, however fell short last season after being eliminated by Marist in the semifinals.
Now, with two regular season games remaining, including their region finale against Greater Atlanta Christian, Jones, who finished with six goals on Friday and reached 250 career points, believes "pushing each other in practice," will be something the Wolves must continue to do in order to win the GHSA DIV I title.
"The biggest thing for us is depth so we're pushing the ninth graders, 1oth graders, 11th graders to be better as well," Jones said of the Wesleyan seniors encouraging and helping the younger Wesleyan players come into their own to help the team achieve their goals.
