The Atlanta Falcons have a good chance to get some more momentum behind them if they pick up their second consecutive win, something they have not been able to do since starting the season with back to back wins over the Panthers and Packers, in New Jersey on Sunday when they take on the New York Jets. The Jets will enter the game with the NFL’s second worst rushing defense, allowing 140.3 yards per game, while the Falcons have the league’s fourth best rushing attack, averaging 139.3 yards on the ground per game.
So while statistically, it appears that Atlanta should be able to take advantage of the Jets deficiency in protecting against the run, the task may not be as easy as it looks and with the Jets having the sixth best pass defense, allowing just 183 yards per game, and the Falcons barely averaging more than 200 yards per game, and a forecast for bad weather predicted for the game, getting things done on the ground may be more important than ever for the Falcons.
On Friday, Atlanta play by play announcer, Wes Durham, joined Steak Shapiro and Sandra Golden on The Steakhouse to share his thoughts on how the Falcons can get out of New York with a win over the Jets, and explained that despite what the numbers say, New York still has “a really good defense and they’ve got an impressive front,” Durham said. However, the longtime sports broadcaster told Shapiro and Golden that seeing how “efficiently” the Falcons ran the ball in their win over the Saints last Sunday and that Atlanta “did the thing you had to do to win the game and that’s the goal again on Sunday,” Durham added.
