The Whitefield Academy Wolfpack girls basketball team is in the midst of an historic season for the program as they notched their 17th win of the season on Saturday after defeating the Mount Pisgah Patriots 77-15, marking their first 17 win season in program history. Now at 17-2, the Wolfpack has posted back to back season with 15 or more wins after totaling 10 wins from 2017 through the 2023 season.
"They just respond. We've been so hard, we get on to them, they're coachable, even when they get attitudes and we get after them, they want to fix it," Whitefield Academy head coach, Heather Karvis, said of the mindset of her players in which they "have committed to celebrating one another," which has helped contribute to the success the Wolfpack is having thus far this season, which is just their fifth double digit win season since the 2006 season.
Saturday's win also improved the Wolfpack to 8-0 in the region standings and sets them up for a pivotal region showdown on Tuesday, when they host the Galloway Scots, currently 10-1 in region play and can stay in contention for the region tournament number seed if they are able to knock off the Wolfpack and Karvis says her players are well aware of the tough road ahead of them in their final six games of the regular season.
"We have to be ready to execute. We're going to face pressure like we haven't faced in a while so we have to be able to value the ball, take care of the ball, limit turnovers and execute on our possessions," Karvis said as she explained what she believes will be important for her players to understand in what to expect from their upcoming opponents.
