The Atlanta Falcons have been on the outside looking in at the NFL playoffs for five straight seasons and after three straight losing seasons are looking to turn the page with the hiring of Raheem Morris as their new head coach. Morris, who was once a part of the Falcons coaching staff under the Dan Quinn regime, and served as the teams’ interim head coach after the firing of Quinn during the 2020 season.
Now back in the building at Flowery Branch, Morris has drawn high praise from coaches and players from around the league which has helped raise a level of excitement and the potential of his ability to tur the franchise around. On Monday, Steak Shapiro and Drew Butler shared their thoughts on the hiring of Morris and discussed the potential of the former Rams’ defensive coordinator coming in and turning the hype into wins.
“Can you get a five-year run, a seven-year run, an eight-year run? You know what that would mean, playoff games, relevancy, division titles, NFC title games,” Shapiro said adding that the lengths of tenures for former Falcons’ Mike Smith and Quinn, were a result of their ability to have Atlanta reaching the post-season with consistency. “That’s what happens when you have a longer tenure. It’s a simple business, if you’re not going to the playoffs consistently, if you don’t have a quarterback, you don’t have a job,” Shapiro said.
