The polls are out and while it was not unanimous in the Associate Press preseason ranking, the Georgia Bulldogs are number one and really to no surprise that the Dawgs have earned the top spot ahead of the start of the 2023 season. The AP No. 1 is the first for Georgia since 2008, having received 60 of the 63 possible first place votes and their second No. 1 ranking ahead of the season as they came in as the favorite in the Coaches Poll last week.
And while there is plenty of hype surrounding the Dawgs and the chances of them making history with a third straight National Title, head coach Kirby Smart has made it clear to his current team that they have a “long way to go” and that they cannot feed off of the “assumptions” people have because of what Georgia did last season, essentially telling them “they’ve done nothing” to deserve the hype.
On Monday, 92-9 The Game’s Jon Chuckery spoke with Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Chip Towers, who covers Georgia and asked his to share his thoughts on Smart’s comments and whether or not he believes that the message would get through to the team. “We’ll see if that resonates.
We won’t know for a couple of months, but once we get well into the season we’ll have an idea of what the character of this team truly is,” Towers said in his response to Chuckery.
