While the Atlanta Hawks are coming off of a win over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday, the team’s struggles continue as they had dropped their previous two contest, including a 127-99 lose to the Washington Wizards, a game most viewed as one the Hawks should have won as the Wizards went into the matchup with a 6-30 record.
Fast forward to Sunday’s win over the Spurs. While Atlanta was able to walk out of State Farm Arena as victors, their ability to close out games with a strong finish almost struck again as they let a 35-point halftime lead dwindle to as low as seven points before winning by a final of 109-99.
Having a chance to witness Sunday’s matchup in person, Steak Shapiro discussed with Sandra Golden on Tuesday’s edition of The Steakhouse, why he believes Young “is the last problem we have in this city,” as he finished with 36 points and 13 assists on a night in which he became the fastest player to reach 10,000 points in 390 career games.
“Trae Young is phenomenal. Him and Dominique (Wilkins) are equal in terms of the greatest Hawks of all-time,” Shapiro expressed to Golden as he suggested that the Hawks could potentially find themselves in a situation in which they are trying to convince Young to stay with the franchise if they are not able to start winning.
“If I’m Trae Young, I’m like ‘hey uh, what’s going on over there,’” Golden added in agreement with Shapiro that the Hawks' struggles could eventually lead to Young beginning to set his sights elsewhere.
