The chase began at about 3 a.m. Tuesday when an officer saw an older- model Toyota Corolla go through a stop sign, according to the San Gabriel Valley-Tribune.

The officer tried to pull over the motorist, but the car kept going, leading to a pursuit of about three minutes that hit speeds of 65 mph before the driver stopped at York Boulevard and Branch Street in Los Angeles, the newspaper reported.

Police notified the parents of both teens, and they went to the scene and took custody of the children. Officers ticketed the driver and his father for "reckless evading police," according to the report.
