The Altadena Library on East Mariposa St. reopened Tuesday morning after it was closed for two months due to the Eaton Fire.
Library district director Nikki Winslow told KNX News’ Karen Adams it’s a place where the community can gather.
“We have our library of things where you can check out laptops and hotspots and sewing machines and a telescope that JPL helps calibrate for us,” she said. “We have our maker space and fab lab, as well as people come in to use the Internet, to use computers. “
Deanna Lee, one of the many patrons at the library, called it one of the treasures of the community.
“This is where I raised my children, bringing them here,” she said. “The library has given so many programs and so many different opportunities for us to thrive.”
Shelby, another patron, said she was relieved to hear the library survived the Eaton Fire.

“We drove by on Wednesday, the day after the fire started, and everything was still burning, and we saw one of the trees on the side caught on fire,” she said. “I was like, ‘Oh, the library is gone,’ and I was just sobbing and then we found out like a week or two later that it was still standing and that was just the best feeling ever. So we've been anticipating coming back so it's very nice, emotional.”
FEMA and the Small Business Association will be at the library to help those impacted by the wildfires.
