ARCADIA, Calif. (KNX) — A five-year-old horse died on Saturday after suffering a training injury at Santa Anita Park in Orange County. The mare, Warren’s Showtime, had eight first-place wins in her 26-race career.
She “fell while exercising at Santa Anita this morning, requiring euthanasia,” as pokesperson for the California Horse Racing Board, told City News Service on Saturday.

Warren’s Showtime broke a front leg during an early morning workout at the track. The exercise rider was thrown from his mount, but was uninjured.
"She was working beautifully, switched leads at the three-sixteenths pole, and broke down," trainer Craig Lewis told the industry publication. "I was watching the work [...] and everybody was marveling at what a beautiful-moving filly she was. Fate intervened."
The mare was the second horse to die at Santa Anita this year from training injury. Dylan’s Wild Cat, a four-year-old mare with two wins, died on Feb. 3.
Last year, Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit died at the end of a workout at Santa Anita last year as well. An autopsy found an anti-ulcer medication and a diuretic in the horse’s system. Medina Spirit was subsequently stripped of the Kentucky Derby victory due to the drug violation.
