More than 100 Eaton Fire survivors and local leaders headed to Sacramento on Tuesday to convince lawmakers to put $25 million into the Community Aid for Rebuilding and Equity Fund.

The CARE Fund helps families and renters who didn’t get enough money from their homeowners’ policies to cover the expensive rebuilding costs.

“The $25 million will be gap funding for homeowners who are struggling with that two to $300,000 gap and remediation as well,” Florence Annang with the Dena Rise Up Coalition told KNX News’ Jon Baird.

The group also hopes to use some of the money to buy land and build affordable housing before developers grab it.
