FBI agents seized a total of 59 drones during World Cup events across Los Angeles.
The FBI said the drones were flying over the matches and fun zone events, which is illegal because of temporary flight restrictions that were in place.
They were on the lookout for potentially lone offender attacks from possible weaponized drones.
“Of the drones we seized, none were weaponized,” Amir Ehsaei, with the FBI, said.
The drones were brought down by electronically pinpointing where the pilots were. Once they located the pilot, they forced them to land the drone.
“Drones can do multiple things. They can have payloads on them, they can cause crashes,” he said. “We have other drones and aircraft in these temporary flight restrictions, and so these drones can interfere and cause crashes with them.”
He said all of the drone pilots were given misdemeanor federal citations.
