Summer 2023 is the perfect time for patriotism to get a little extra sauce, if Heinz has anything to say about it.
To that end, the condiment goliath is releasing state-specific sauce packets throughout the hot weather months in a promotion they are calling Saucemerica.
The limited-edition releases will sport designs unique to each state in which they are found.
As for what’s in the packets, they will contain one of seven different sauces which Heinz says will depend on the regional cuisine of the area: candidates for inclusion include ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, ranch, BBQ sauce and tartar sauce.
In addition, Heinz is also releasing packets containing new limited-edition flavors, with a new one coming available each month through November.
Among the new flavors: creamy chimichurri, harissa aioli, hatch chili ranch, yuzu wasabi, black garlic ranch and Bangin’ Brewery Mustard.
What does the package say about your state? The California sauce packet, for example, is filled with—well—ketchup, but it features an image of the American classic burger and fries.
The Florida version contains mustard, which is meant to pair with the Cuban sandwich on the state’s sauce packet. So, too, does Illinois, except it's for their Chicago dogs.
Texas’ is barbecue sauce to slather over brisket and Washington’s offering is tartar sauce, which could be enjoyed with fried oysters, as the packet suggests.
For those who can amass a robust enough collection of different states’ packet, Heinz is offering prizes ranging from $500 to $100,000.
You can visit the company’s dedicated Saucemerica website for details and to sign up for the contest.
