Los Angeles Councilman John Lee announced he will not support the ordinance requiring people to show proof of at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine to go into indoor public places, according to City News Service.

It comes after City Council passed the motion to request the ordinance with a 13 to 0 vote on Wednesday. Los Angeles Daily News reports Councilmember Lee was absent that day because of a COVID-19 exposure and “was experiencing systems.” He said he tested negative.

Councilmember Lee wrote in an email to his constituents that the proposal was “arbitrary” and said it “would essentially be ineffective.”

City News Service said the draft ordinance was complete as of Friday and is expected to be given to City Council later this month.

Council President Nury Martinez and Councilman Mitch O’Farrell introduced the motion.
