A 19-year-old man remained jailed Friday for allegedly possessing an assault weapon in Moreno Valley.
Bryant Spencer of Moreno Valley was arrested Thursday night on suspicion of possessing an assault weapon and a large capacity magazine, according to inmate records. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, where he remains held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Deputies from the Moreno Valley sheriff's station responded at 7:22 p.m. Thursday to a report of several men using drugs in their vehicles in the 24000 block of Cottonwood Avenue, according to Sgt. James Merrill of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
As deputies approached the suspects, several men ran, and one of them dropped a loaded firearm, Merrill said. Deputies chased and were able to detain Spencer, who was later arrested and booked into county jail.
No other suspects were arrested
"A further search of the two vehicles revealed three additional loaded firearms, including a rifle," Merrill wrote in a statement. "As a result of the investigation, search warrants were authored for two different locations nearby, and an additional firearm was recovered."
Anyone with additional information was asked to call Deputy Langford of the Moreno Valley sheriff's station at 951-486-6700.
