On Friday, Los Angeles FBI agents returned nearly 50 priceless and historic items to Egypt via the consul general.

KNX News’ Craig Fiegener reported that the 48 cultural artifacts were mostly small statues that appear to be carved from stone.

Investigators said the artifacts were discovered here in Los Angeles and that the suspected trafficker has since died, but there could be co-conspirators, and for that reason they described this as technically an open investigation

“The items may have been inherited or exchanged hands multiple times before being identified as illegally in our country,” Patrick Grande, the assistant director in charge of L.A.'s FBI field office, said. “ We encourage anyone who suspects that they may have looted cultural property to contact their local FBI office or legal attaché office overseas.”

He added that over the last decade, law enforcement in the United States has returned over 5,000 cultural artifacts to Egypt.
