One person was found dead inside a burning home Wednesday in Boyle Heights.

Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters were called just after midnight to the vacant one-story residence at 121 Mathews St. near Pennsylvania Avenue where they encountered heavy flames and smoke at the home. They used several hose lines inside the home to extinguish the flames, LAFD spokesman Nicholas Prange said.

During a search of the residence after the fire was put out, fire crews found a body and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

LAFD Arson investigators will handle the investigation of the fire and the fatality, Prange said.
