Calese Carron Crowder of Glendale had left the store before officers arrived, but they tracked him down at a Walmart store at 1301 N. Victory Place, where they took him into custody.
"Using the store's surveillance system, officers monitored the suspect as he moved through various departments. While in the women's section, the suspect was observed following a female customer, crouching near her, and engaging in lewd behavior by inappropriately sniffing her buttocks," police said in a statement.
Crowder, a registered sex offender currently on parole, has a history of similar offenses in Glendale and Burbank dating back to 2021, according to police.
He was booked on suspicion of loitering with intent to commit a crime, and was being held without bail, according to police and jail records.
Anyone with information regarding the case or individuals who believe Crowder may have victimized them was urged to contact the Burbank Police Department's Investigations Division at 818-238-3210.
