The device was found around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at Burbank Recycling Center at 500 S. Flower St., near the Golden State (5) Freeway, according to Burbank police.
A report from the scene indicated the device was found on a conveyor belt at the center, which was evacuated following the discovery.
Deputies from the sheriff's Arson-Explosives Detail arrived around 9 a.m. and rendered the device safe a half-hour later, Burbank Police Department Lt. Brent Fekety said, adding that it contained no explosive material.
