A rally was held Monday near the El Capitan Theater over the suspension of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and concerns about free speech rights.

Some Democratic members of Congress and Hollywood union leaders attended the rally.

On Monday afternoon, as the rally was wrapping up, ABC and Disney officials announced that Kimmel's show would return on the air on Tuesday. KNX News' Jon Baird spoke with some protestors about Kimmel's return.

One woman said she's was glad to hear he was coming back on the air.

"He has every right to say what he wants to say just as much as anybody else," she said. "That's why I served."

One man said he was pleasantly surprised by the news.

"I wouldn't say shocked, but I'm glad that it seems like the logical thing is happening," he said.

Last week, Kimmel’s show was suspended “indefinitely” following comments he made about the man arrested in the murder of Charlie Kirk during his monologue on his Sept. 15.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” Kimmel said in his monologue.

Kimmel also poked fun at President Trump’s response to how the president was dealing with Kirk’s death.

The suspension of Kimmel’s show has prompted some celebrities to sign an open letter defending Kimmel and free speech.
