An 18-year-old Arizona woman, who was allegedly driving a Chevy Corvette at top speeds of 155 mph, is being charged for the death of a dad of two, whom she allegedly slammed into while he was riding a motorcycle.
Rachel Berg, 18, was speeding in her new car on Mesa highway at about 10:30 p.m. on March 12 when the accident occurred, AZ Family reported.
According to the outlet, Berg, who did attempt life-saving measures on the victim, struck the Harley-Davidson of 46-year-old Michael Clark, a Tempe park ranger and former Tacoma, Washington, police officer.
After the car collided with the bike, Clark was thrown from his ride and into the eastbound HOV lane, the outlet shared. Berg reportedly pulled over and attempted to perform CPR on Clark, but he died at the scene.
AZ Family reported that she told police she tried to stop in time before hitting the motorcycle but couldn’t.
Data from Berg’s airbag control module indicated that she had been traveling at 155 mph five seconds before impact and 87 mph when she hit the bike.
Berg has since been arrested and charged with reckless manslaughter.
Laura Clark, the wife of the victim, shared with the outlet that she wants justice for her husband.
“He should’ve been home at 10:45, and I got out of bed at 11:15, and he wasn’t, and I could hear the police helicopter. And I knew, I knew. I called him. He didn’t answer. I texted him, but he didn’t read it,” Laura told AZ Family.
She also shared that they had just moved to the Mesa area six months ago.
