Twenty-year-old Maritza Gonzalez remains in critical condition after the stabbing, which occurred about 3 a.m. in the 8900 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, near San Vicente Boulevard, according to the sheriff's department.

Respondiong deputies found her suffering from an upper body stab wound.

Paramedics rushed her to a hospital, where she was listed in critical condition and remained so on Thursday.

"The fight involved several people and at this time, there is no suspect information to release," sheriff's officials said. "Homicide investigators were not notified of the incident until 8 a.m. due to the severity of the victim's injuries."

A person of interest believed responsible for the stabbing was identified by investigators, according to a sheriff's department statement that said that an individual contacted West Hollywood deputies Sunday to inquire about a person being detained at the station on an unrelated charge.

"The person of interest was detained," according to the sheriff's department. "The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. The District Attorney's office declined to file charges at that time, pending further investigation."

The person of interest is now cooperating with investigators and the sheriff's department announced that there is no threat to the community.

Anyone with information about the stabbing was asked to call the sheriff's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous calls can be made to 800- 222-8477, or tips may be sent to lacrimestoppers.org.
