Having a pool in your backyard is always fun, but sometimes you get unwelcome visitors who think it's okay to take a dip, and that's exactly what this 550-pound alligator did to a family in Florida.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, a family on Florida's west coast woke up to an alligator measuring almost 11 feet long in their pool.

The big guy wanted to cool down, so he ripped through the family's screened-in area and went right into the water, making himself at home.

The family called the police, who showed up and wrestled with the gator before they were able to remove it from the family's property.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office posted photos of the removal of the quarter-ton beast online.

Finding an alligator in your pool in Florida is relatively common, and the sheriff's office said this is why residents should always check the pool before going for a swim.

They also said that if you do find an alligator, don't do your best Steve Irwin impression; always call the authorities.
