PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- Benny Snell Jr. was just a three star prospect coming out of high school.
He used it as motivation to prove he was better than that.
He fell to the 4th round in the NFL Draft before the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him at 122nd overall.
Now he's using that as motivation to prove people wrong at the next level.
Snell said he already feels like he fits in with the Steelers and couldn't be happy with where he landed in the end.
"I felt like I was made to be a Steeler. It was just right. It feels right. This is my type of football and the fit was just perfect. I feel that I've been in a lot of situations, and the NFL is completely different, but I feel like I've had pressure on my shoulders on so many occasions that I became successful at the end of the game. Or I was able to get those tough yards, get the touchdown if needed, so I feel like whatever situation I'm put in, I'm going to try to give my best so we can have the best outcome."
So, what is Snell all about? What can he bring to the Steelers and what is his style of play?
"I try not to let one guy tackle me so running people over and getting those tough yards is just kind of natural to me," said Snell. "With me being the size that I am, I feel like I'm pretty stout as a pass blocker. Things are pretty different in the NFL so I'm going to have to adjust to that."
"I think my [Steelers> coaches see that Kentucky had so much success running the ball that I didn't get to catch the ball that much, I really didn't get my opportunity because we were so successful in the run game. I'm going to try to show that as much as I can in camp and while I'm at practice so that's what I've been working on in the offseason. I've been working on my open field speed a little bit more and we're going to go into this season ready to show the world what I can do."
“I came in, I kind of was thinking I might want to do the fresh start thing and not grab 26. But I feel like 26 is something I can inherit, so we can forget about the past. This is a new beginning for the team. They’re kinda rookie’ing me for my number right now, but I can say it’s going to be a 20 number, for sure, and you know, I’m just taking it slow.”
