Pittsburgh Penguins forward Ben Kindel has returned to Pittsburgh after collapsing on the team plane earlier this week.
Penguins General Manager Kyle Dubas described the incident as a vasovagal episode.
The Mayo Clinic says it is a common, temporary loss of consciousness caused by a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure.
Dubas said it is unclear what triggered the incident.
“I met with him here this morning, very clearly shaken and sorting through it,” said Dubas.
Kindel has been placed on injured reserve and will have more testing.
While there is no timetable for his return, Kindel could return to practice as early as next week, if further testing goes well.
The Penguins’ team plan returned to Salt Lake City earlier this week after Kindel collapsed on the plane and was taken to an area hospital.
