PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Paul Goldshmidt homered for the 4th consecutive game as the Cardinals defeat the Pirates 6-3 Thursday afternoon at PNC Park to sweep the 4-game series.
The Pirates finished the homestand 1-7 and are now 2-11 since the All Star Break which has them at 46-56 overall and 9 games out of a playoff spot.
"We haven't played winning baseball, I know that's an overstatement but it's a statement and it's true, we haven't playing winning baseball," said Manager Clint Hurdle. "We haven't connected the dots, we haven't been able to get our hitting and our pitching and our defense all synced up."
There has been games in this two week stretch since the All Star Break that the Pirates have been a hit or two away from flipping the score into the win column, but they haven't been able to capitilize on their opportunities.
These first two weeks after the All Star Break have been a challenge for the Pirates and how can they make sure they keep their heads up and turn this thing around sooner rather than later.
